Why Go Organic?

Organic is a trend that shows no signs of slowing down. I recommend using organic foods whenever you can get them so that your food is free from hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, and other chemicals.

It is best to buy chemical-free and pesticide-free meats because there is a cumulative effect in livestock that receive medications and pesticide-laden feed. Toxins are concentrated in the meat and then passed on to you. The same goes for certain vegetables treated with pesticides, such as potatoes, bell peppers, and spinach. Here are the other vegetables you should buy organic, according to Eating Well’s Dirty Dozen list:

  • Apples
  • Celery
  • Cherries
  • Grapes
  • Nectarines
  • Peaches
  • Pears
  • Strawberries
  • Tomatoes

So shell out a little extra for organic meat and the vegetables on this list. You can buy these items more affordably at local independently-owned butcher shops, fishmongers, and farmers’ markets.
